Cougars Advance All Four Boats to Saturday Grand Finals at WCC Championships

GOLD RIVER, Calif. (May 15, 2026) – Washington State women's rowing finished strong in day one of the WCC Championships, placing first in its 1V4 and 2V8 heats, and advancing to Saturday's Grand Finals in all four boats.
"Great job by the Cougs today," said Head Coach Jane LaRiviere. "It was great to see the 1V4 and 2V8 leading the charge. The V8 had a solid race and will build off of that tomorrow. Go Cougs!"
WSU took first in the 1V4 with a time of 7:36.79, closely beating out second-place Gonzaga who had a time of 7:44.06. Portland placed third with a time of 7:43.98.
The Cougars also finished first in the 2V8 with a time of 6:58.06. After battling with Gonzaga over the first 500 meters pf the race, WSU pulled away from there to finish about 12 seconds ahead of the second-place Bulldogs (7:09.79) and third-place Portland (7:10.35).
WSU finished neck-and-neck with Gonzaga in the 1V8, crossing right behind them with a time of 6:54.32. Oregon State took first with a time of 6:44.33 and Gonzaga placed second in 6:53.03.
The Cougars began the day strong, finishing second in the 2V4 with a time of 7:43.44, right behind Oregon State's time of 7:34.75. Behind WSU, Gonzaga finished third in 7:53.61 and Portland finished fourth in 8:05.53.

The Cougars move on to finals racing on Saturday, May 16, beginning at 8:15 a.m. with the 2V4 Grand Final, followed by the 1V4 Grand Final at 8:30 a.m., the 2V8 Grand Final at 9:15 a.m., and the 1V8 Grand Final at 9:45 a.m.
