Cougars Earn Three Silver Medals and a Bronze at WCC Championships
May 16, 2026 | Rowing
GOLD RIVER, Calif. (May 16, 2026) – Washington State women's rowing placed second in the 1V4, 2V8, and 2V4 races, and finished third in the 1V8 to make podium in all four Grand Final events in Saturday's West Coast Conference Championships finale.
"It was a great team finish, we raced our brains out today," said Head Coach Jane LaRiviere. "After each of our first three boats placed second in their respective races, the V8 closed it out for us to secure the second-place team finish. It's good to improve on last year's finish, and then to end the year with our best performance was outstanding!"
The Cougars started the day with a silver medal in the 2V4, crossing the finish in a time of 7:51.05. The WSU shell started off strong in the opening 500 meters, but Oregon State separated themselves from there to win gold in a time of 7:40.99. Gonzaga finished third with a time of 7:55.23.
WSU raced neck-and-neck with Gonzaga in the 1V4, pulling away over the final 500 meters and taking silver with a time of 7:42.79. Gonzaga finished third in 7:48.10 and Oregon State placed first in 7:28.40.
In the 2V8, WSU finished close behind Oregon State, taking another silver medal with a time of 7:03.59. OSU placed first in a time of 6:57.20 while Gonzaga finished third in 7:13.38.
The Cougar 1V8 wrapped up the day and sealed the team's second-place finish. After San Diego began to pull away midway through the race in the battle for second place, WSU stormed back over the final 500 meters to close the gap by several seconds, and nearly overtook San Diego. The Cougars finished just a second behind San Diego to place third, but still made podium with a time of 6:55.10. San Diego finished second with a time of 6:54.35 and Oregon State took first with a time of 6:45.80.
The WCC also announced its All-Conference Team and major award winners following racing, which saw Eesha Raj win 2026 WCC Newcomer of the Year, and Jaeve Proberts, Siena Snow and Harriet Thompson all get named All-WCC First Team.
