Cougs Take 1V4 at Winchell Cup

| By:
COLTON, Wash. (April 5, 2025) – The Washington State women's rowing team won the 1V4 race Saturday afternoon as they hosted Oregon State for the 25th Winchell Cup.

Despite a 2 hour and 45 minute delay due to water conditions and adjusting the course to race in the reverse direction, the regatta was completed and followed up with a senior day celebration to honor the team's nine seniors.

"I'm glad that we got racing off," said Head Coach Jane LaRiviere. "I want to thank Oregon State for being patient with the delay. Kudos to them, and we're ready to get back at it on Monday as we get ready to take on Gonzaga next weekend."

The Cougars bested the Beavers in the 1V4, racing in a time of 7:18.05, four seconds ahead of second-place OSU.

WSU raced close the rest of the day, placing second in the 1V8 in 6:22.86 behind OSU (6:14.44), and second in the 2V8 (6:41.05).

The day opened with OSU winning the 3V8+/4V8+ race in 6:55.62. The WSU 3V8 placed second in 7:06.90 and the WSU 4V8 was third in 7:45.40.

Then it was the 2V4+, which was also won by OSU in 7:27.53, followed by WSU with a time of 7:32.76.

The 3V4+ and 4V4+ races wrapped things up for the day, with OSU winning both. WSU finished second in the 3V4 in 7:43.20, and then in the final race of the day the Cougar 4V4 placed second in 7:59.53 followed by the 5V4 in third (8:26.77).
