1V4, 1V8 Place Fourth in Final Day of Lake Wheeler Invitational

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 26, 2025) – The Washington State women's rowing team was fast on the water Saturday morning with both the 1V4 and 1V8 placing fourth overall.

"The Cougs came out fighting today." said Head Coach Jane LaRiviere. "We learned a lot and are looking forward to finding some more speed in the coming weeks."

The Cougar 1V4 finished nearly three whole seconds ahead of No. 18 Duke, and the 1V8 placed two spots ahead of No. 24 North Carolina. Wazzu finished the weekend placing eighth overall among the 18 teams despite not traveling a 3V8 shell and not getting any points for those three races.

Columbia (7:18.78), No. 12 Virginia (7:20.02) and North Carolina (7:22.10) finished 1-2-3 in the 1V4 race with WSU following closely behind, placing fourth in a time of 7:22.81 ahead of No. 18 Duke (7:25.31), Clemson (7:26.69) and Gonzaga (7:29.48).

The Cougs also finished fourth in the 1V8 behind Virginia who came in first (6:18.62), Columbia in second (6:26.26) and Duke in third (6:27.13). WSU was fourth in 6:28.02 ahead of Boston (6:28.48) and No. 24 North Carolina (6:29.54).

WSU placed eighth in the 2V4 with a final time of 7:38.30 as Duke (7:22.52), North Carolina (7:23.24) and Virginia (7:26.88) rounded out the top three spots. 

In the 2V8, the Cougars finished 11th in a time of 6:46.81. Virginia won the race in 6:30.96, with Duke (6:33.42) coming in second, and Columbia (6:38.279) barely edging out North Carolina (6:38.280) for third and fourth place.
