Cougars Close Out Series at No. 20 Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. (May 18, 2024) – Washington State dropped a 10-4 decision in the series-finale at No. 20 Oregon Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars received two hits from Alan Shibley who homered and drove in two runs while Nate Swarts closed his WSU career with a pair of doubles.

Oregon tallied 12 hits, scored twice in the third, three times in the fourth, twice in the fifth and once more in the sixth.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
Oregon took a 2-0 lead with a two-run lead in the third inning but the Cougars came right back with three runs in the fourth. Cole Cramer worked a walk, Logan Johnstone lined a single the other way into left field and one batter later Alan Shibley bounced a ground ball back up the middle and beat the throw at first base for an infield RBI-single. Swarts followed with an opposite-field RBI-double down the right field line to tie the game and Morrow drove in Shibley as the go-ahead run for a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Oregon regained the lead with a two-run lead and a sacrifice fly for a 5-3 advantage before adding two more in the fifth inning for a 7-3 lead.

Shibley made it a three-run game with a no-doubt solo shot to right-centerfield in the sixth but Oregon answered with their own solo shot in the bottom of the inning. The Ducks added two more runs in the eighth.
