FRESNO, Calif. – The 36th-ranked Washington State Tennis team snapped a two-match skid by defeating Fresno State, 4-1 Wednesday afternoon at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
 
With the win, the Cougars improve to 14-4 on the season while Fresno State falls to 6-7.
 
The day began with doubles and Washington State captured wins at No. 1 and 3 to secure the opening point. Hikaru Sato and Tiffany Mylonas defeated Deniza Marcinkevica and Ella Husrefovic of Fresno State 6-2 at No. 1 while the Cougar duo of Michaela Bayerlova and Aneta Miksovska clinched the point with a 6-2 win over Jennifer Timotin and Shir Azran at No. 3. At No. 2, FSU's Georgia Lawson and A.C. Hummel posted a 6-1 win over WSU's Yang Lee and Melisa Ates.
 
In singles play, the Cougars quickly increased the lead to 3-0 as Sato made quick work of Husrefovic, winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, while Bayerlova led Timotin 7-5 when Timotin was forced to retire.
 
Azran picked up the only victory for Fresno State when she defeated Lee, 6-2,6-2 at No. 5 before Miksovska closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lawson at No. 6.
 
With the team outcome decided, the other two matches were stopped. Mylonas lost the first set against Marcinkevica, 7-5, but was leading 4-1 in the second at No. 3. Savanna Ly-Nguyen was leading 7-5, 1-0 over Hummel at No. 4 when their match was halted.
 
The Cougars return to Pac-12 play Sunday when they host Oregon at Hollingbery Fieldhouse at 11 a.m.
