Ian Hamilton Called Up to Chicago White Sox

CHICAGO (Aug. 31, 2018) – Former Washington State pitcher Ian Hamilton was called up to the big leagues by the Chicago White Sox, the club announced Friday.

Hamilton will be in uniform Friday night for the White Sox' home game against the Boston Red Sox and wear No. 63.

Hamilton pitched three seasons for the Cougars (2014-16), earning All-Pac-12 Conference honors three times and finished his career with a school-record 28 saves. In 70 career appearances, the righthander who pitched at Skyview High School in Vancouver, Wash., posted a 3.60 ERA and struck out 123 in 160 career innings.

Hamilton, an 11th-round draft pick by the White Sox in 2016, has quickly moved up the minor league ranks and was recently rated the No. 16 prospect in the White Sox organization according to MLB Pipeline. Hamilton began the 2018 season at Double-A Birmingham where he posted a 1.78 ERA with 34 strikeouts and 12 saves in 21 appearances, earning a spot on the Southern League All-Star Team. Hamilton was promoted to Triple-A Charlotte in late June where he recorded 10 saves, a 1.71 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 22 appearances.

Hamilton becomes the second Cougar in the big leagues this season, joining left-handed pitcher Adam Conley who is in his fourth big league season, all with the Miami Marlins.
