Five Cougars Capture All-West Coast Conference Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. (April 22, 2025) – Five Washington State Tennis student-athletes, led by first-team selections Eva Alvarez Sande and Maxine Murphy, were named to 2025 All-West Coast Conference Women's Tennis teams, the conference announced Tuesday.

Alvarez Sande and Murphy were named to the Singles and Doubles All-Conference first teams, while Elyse Tse, along with Hania Abouelsaad and Martina Markov, were named All-WCC Honorable Mention in singles and doubles, respectively.

Alvarez Sande, a junior from Coruna, Galicia, Spain, posted a team-leading 24-11 record in singles, including a 13-6 dual mark as she garnered first-team honors in singles. She went 12-5 at No. 1 singles, 1-1 at No. 2, en route to a career-best 24 singles wins, which included a 2-1 record against nationally-ranked players.

Murphy, a redshirt-junior from Laguna Nigel, Calif., also was named the All-WCC first team after compiling a 21-10 singles record, 16-6 in dual matches. She played mainly at No. 2 singles, accumulating a 15-5 mark, also going 1-1 at No. 1. Murphy was named the WCC Player of the Week early in the season after straight-set wins over Idaho, Eastern Washington and Michigan State.

WSU's No. 1 doubles team of Alvarez Sande and Murphy posted a 2-18 overall record, 16-4 in dual matches and 6-1 in WCC play as they were named to the All-WCC Doubles first team. Three times during the season the duo, which is 4-0 against nationally-ranked teams, collected WCC Doubles Team of the Week honors as they enter the 2025 WCC Championships having won 13 of their last 14 matches. The pair has reached a season-high ranking of No. 34 and currently are ranked No. 45.

Tse, a senior form Auckland, New Zealand, received 2025 All-WCC Singles Honor Mention honors after posting a 20-13 singles record, the most wins she has compiled as a Cougar. Tse went 13-8 in dual matches, with all except one coming at No. 3 singles as she ended the regular season on a three-match winning streak.

Abouelsaad, a senior from Alexandria, Egypt, and Markov, a sophomore from Ingelheim, Germany, received All-WCC Doubles Honorable Mention honors after ending the regular season with a 16-10 overall record, 11-5 in dual matches and a perfect 7-0 in WCC play at No. 3 doubles. They enter this weekend WCC Championships in San Diego on an eight-match winning streak and are the reigning WCC Doubles Team of the Week after wins over San Diego and Santa Clara last week.

The Cougars will be the No. 3 seed when the WCC Championships begin this Thursday in San Diego. WSU will face No. 6 Portland at 10 a.m. at the Aztec Tennis Complex on the San Diego State campus. The Cougars defeated Portland, 4-2, April 12 in Portland.
