WSU Falls at Nevada in Series-Opener

RENO, Nev. (March 28, 2025) – Washington State dropped a 10-0 contest in the series-opener at Nevada Friday evening.

The Cougars received singles from Ryan Skjonsby, Ricco Longo and Will Cresswell while starting pitcher Griffin Smith worked six innings, struck out three and allowed four earned runs. The junior righthander Smith has worked at least five innings in all seven of his starts this season.

Nevada took advantage of three Cougar errors and hit four home runs to take the series-opener. The Wolfpack scored three in the second, one in the third, one in the sixth, four in the seventh and one in the eighth to clinch the win in the eighth.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
Longo singled to right field to lead off the second, later stole second and moved to third on a throwing error but was stranded at third after Luke Thiele lined out to right field to end the frame. In the bottom of the inning, WSU nearly ended the inning with a groundball double play but a Cougar fielding error allowed the inning to continue and the next hitter hit a three-run home run.

WSU put runners on first and second in the seventh but Nevada ended the threat with a strikeout. The Wolfpack pulled away with a four-run eighth and clinched the game with an RBI-single in the eighth.
