Cougs post multiple wins to lead off Oregon State High Performance Meet

CORVALLIS, Ore. — On the final weekend of competition before the 2023 Pac-12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Washington State men's and women's track and field teams saw a dozen student-athletes post season-best times and marks Friday, the first day of the Oregon State High Performance Meet.
Caroline Jerotich posted another PR in the 3000-meter steeplechase invitational while moving into second all-time at WSU with a 10:14.15 to place third overall in a women's field that shattered the Whyte Track facility record on the evening. Kelvin Limo (8:48.34) and Sam Griffith (8:59.52) finished first and second, respectively, in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase invitational.
Leading off the distance carnival nightcap, Neema Kimtai hit a new PR in the 1500-meter invitational with a time of 4:20.48 — seventh all-time at WSU — to place fourth in the women's field.
Max Moore surpassed teammate Ronald Grueso Mosquera on his final throw in the men's discus to take the second spot with a personal-best mark of 52.27m.
Kolby Weiss cleared her two attempts of the day in the women's pole vault and finished first overall with a season-best finish at 3.80m.
Freshman Caden Hottman later produced the Cougars' fifth top-three finish in the afternoon's field events after posting a personal-best mark of 57.40m to place second in the men's hammer throw.
The Cougs will pick up day two action at the Oregon State High Performance Meet on Saturday morning with the men's javelin competition at 10 a.m. WSU will help lead off the Fresno State Invitational which will open competition Saturday at 1 p.m. beginning with the men's and women's 4X100m relays.
