Twenty-Three Cougars Earn Pac-12 Rowing All-Academic Honors

SAN FRANCISCO – Twenty-three members of the Washington State University women's rowing team earned Pac-12 All-Academic accolades, commissioner Larry Scott announced Tuesday. 

Eleven Cougars were named to the first team, including senior and three-time honoree, Paige Danielson (4.00 grade point average, electrical engineering), as well as second-year honorees, senior Hannah Welzbacker (3.64, communication and society) and juniors Renee Kemp (3.82 GPA, biology) and Ivy Elling Quaintance (3.80 GPA, sport science). First-year Cougar all-academic honorees to make the first team include senior Rachael Christman (3.84, sport science), juniors Ony Chigozie (3.70, biochemistry) and Isabella Cristelli (3.69, economic sciences) and sophomores Emily Austin (4.00, zoology), Abigail Linnenkohl (3.88, undeclared), Chloe White (3.92, biology) and Katelyn Ware (3.93, undeclared). 

Six members of the WSU rowing team were named to the second team, led by third-year honoree, senior Sara Brevick (3.50, human development) and second-year honorees, senior Linnea Davison (3.60, psychology) and juniors Kamila Ondrackova (3.71, sport science) and Ella Cowan de Wolf (3.61, animal sciences. Picking up honors for the first time were sophomores Emma Barrett (3.71, undeclared) and Kailey Kassuba (3.57, undeclared). 

Rounding out the Cougar honorees were six that received honorable mention, including third-year honoree, senior Grace Arnis (3.21, broadcast news), second-year honoree, junior Sue Yu (3.22, undeclared), and first-year honorees, seniors Emily Weible (3.11, psychology/sport science), Cassidy Thompson (3.04, microbiology) and Madeleine Bingham (3.00, environmental & ecosystem science), as well as junior Nora Hefte (3.23, bioengineering). 

WSU led the league with its 23 honorees, followed by Stanford with 21 and Washington with 18. Oregon State had 15 honorees, California 14, UCLA 13 and USC 7. 

To be eligible for selection to the Pac-12 academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average, compete in a minimum of 50 percent of competitions, and be in at least her second academic year at the institution.
