BANDON, Ore. – The Washington State men's golf team jumped to places to finish 15th in the Bandon Dunes Championship hosted by Gonzaga Tuesday at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort at Bandon, Ore.
The Cougars finished the tournament with a three-round score of 924 (+60). Utah (+12, 876) managed to jump Ohio State (+20, 884) to take first in the tournament. The Buckeyes fell to third. Denver took second with a score of 882 (+15).
"Although the conditions were tough, we need to be tough, play tough, learn from it and put it behind us," head coach
Dustin White said.
All ranked teams remained outside of the top-5 at the end of competition. No. 10 SMU (+23, 887) stayed solid at sixth, while No. 19 NC State (+25, 889) jumped one spot into seventh. No. 32 Oregon finished ninth with a three-round score of 891 (+27).
Juniors
Nicklaus Chiam and
Scott Redelsperger led the Cougars, tying for 55th with after shooting 229 (+13) throughout the tournament. Junior
Daniel Kolar (+17, 233) tied for 71st. Seniors
Grant Cole (+20, 236) and
AJ Armstrong (+28, 244) tied for 79th and 103rd respectively.
Ryan Maine tied for 79th after shooting a 236 (+20) as an individual.
Blake Tomlinson of Utah held his spot in first after shooting a 212 (-4). Kevin Velo (-3, 213) of San Jose State jumped up to second, while Esteban Missura (E, 216) of Denver fell into a tie for third with Kevin Geniza of Oregon and Tristan Mandur of Utah.
The Cougars will return to the green Monday through Tuesday, March 18-19 for the NIT Invitational at Tucson Ariz., at Omni Tucson National Golf Course.
"We need to make the most of the next few days before we head down to Tucson for out next tournament," White said.
