Cougs Finish Final Round in California

The Cougs finished the Big Horn Invitational in ninth place overall.
PALM DESERT, Calif. - The Washington State men's golf team finished in ninth place in the Bighorn Invitational on Saturday. With plenty of red on their scorecards, the team scored its tournament low of 285(-3) in the final round of play to finish the two-day event at four-over with a total score of 868. At the top of the standings, No. 15 Illinois came up with the low score of the tournament as the Illini shot 40-under as a team with a three-round total of 824, 10 strokes better than second place Mississippi State.
Individually, WSU had a pair of Cougs card tournament bests of 69 in senior Zach Anderson and junior AJ Armstrong. The two matched senior Derek Bayley's second round score for the best 18 holes of the afternoon. Anderson started hot in his first nine holes of the day, carding four birdies to go three under by the turn before parring out the rest of the way. He would end the tournament in 29th overall at 217(+1). For Armstrong, the final day 69 pushed the junior into a tie for 50th with a two-day total of 224(+8).

At the top of the individual standings for the Cougs was senior Derek Bayley who made his way once more into the top-25 despite posting a 75 on Saturday afternoon. Bayley tied for 21st scoring a 70(-2) and a 69(-3) in the first two rounds to bring his total score to a 214(-2).

Sophomore Daniel Kolar came in two strokes shy of Anderson, tying for 33rd at three-over for the tournament after an even-par, 72, Saturday while Senior Brian Mogg tied for 50th alongside of Armstrong.
Overall, Illinois Bryan Baumgarten took home the individual title for the tournament at an 11-under, 205.

The Cougars will have a three week break before returning to competition, where they will participate in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational from April 14-15.
