Day One Ends at the Bighorn Invitational

The Cougs saw senior Derek Bayley move into the top-10 after 36 holes.
Palm Desert, Calif. - The WSU men's golf team finished 36 holes at the Big Horn Invitational Friday in Palm Desert, Calif., ending the opening day in 10th place. The Cougars scored an overall of 583(+7) after recording a 290(+3) and 293(+4) in the first two rounds.Â
While the team finished in 10th, senior Derek Bayley continued his stellar play in the month of march as the fourth-year Coug went red in both rounds on the day, scoring a 70(-2) in the first and a 69(-3) in the second round. Improving throughout the day, Bayley recorded an overall of 139(-5) to push his way into the top-10 as he sits in a tie for seventh on the leaderboard. Bayley trails the tournament leaders, Illinois' Michael Feagles and Mississippi State's Taylor Bibbs, by just two strokes after the pair hit the clubhouse at seven-under through 36 holes.
Behind Bayley, sophomore Daniel Kolar carded a 76(+4) in the first round, but came back strong in the second round going one-under par with a 71. Kolar's 148 (+3) put the sophomore in a tie for 37th. Just one stroke behind Kolar sits senior Zack Anderson, who carded a two-round score of 149(+4) to tie for 39th.Â
Teams will tee off the third round starting at 8 a.m. with the Cougs hitting the course at 8:09 a.m. beginning with AJ Armstrong from the 10th hole.
