Cougs to Play in Southern Dunes Invitational

THIS WEEK: The WSU men's golf team is rerouting to Maricopa, Arizona to compete in the Wyoming Southern Dunes Invitational, October 14-15. The team was originally scheduled to participate in the Paintbrush Invitational earlier this week, but snow led to the cancellation of the tournament.

THE COURSE: The invitational will take place at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona and is a par 72. Rounds 1 and 2 will be played on Saturday, kicking off with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. Round 3 will begin Sunday at 7:30 a.m. as well.

THE FIELD: Participating teams include host Wyoming, Air Force, Boise State, Cal Poly, Idaho, Loyola Marymount, Sam Houston State, Utah Valley, Western Kentucky, Arizona, Arizona State, and Washington State.

REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougars will be seniors Derek Bayley and Brian Mogg, junior AJ Armstrong, and sophomores Daniel Kolar and Nicklaus Chiam.

LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: The Cougars finished in 13^th place in the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, New Mexico, September 22-23. Junior Grant Cole had the best score for WSU, tying for 40^th overall with a 225(+9). Senior Brian Mogg and junior AJ Armstrong shared a final score of 226(+10), and tied for 45^th place.

COACHING STAFF: The men's golf team is led by second-year head coach Dustin White, a WSU alum who golfed for the Cougars from 1999-2003…assisting White is Chris Gilbert, a second-year assistant coach with four years of collegiate and three years professional golfing experience.
