Cougars to Open Fall Season in California

THIS WEEK: The Washington State University men's golf team travels to Pebble Beach, Calif. for the Saint Mary's Invitational, Sept. 14-16, to open the fall season.
THE COURSE: The three-day event will take place at Poppy Hills Golf Course, a 6,868-yard track at par 71…teams will play 18 holes each day beginning Monday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 a.m…the second round will play Tuesday at 7:30 a.m, with the tournament concluding Wednesday starting at 7:30 a.m.
THE FIELD: Joining host-school Saint Mary's in the 15-team field will be Arizona, BYU, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, Oregon State, Pacific, San Diego, San Diego State, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Texas State, UC Davis, and Washington State.
THIS YEAR'S COUGARS: The Cougars welcome five golfers to the team for the 2015-16 season, including transfers Ryan Baumgart and Seth Nickerson, as well as freshmen Aaron Whalen, Grant Cole, and AJ Armstrong…five golfers return, led by seniors Evan Omelia and Bhurinat Songpaiboon.
REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougar men will be sophomore Zach Anderson, senior Evan Omelia, sophomore Derek Bayley, junior Nick Mandell, and freshman Aaron Whalen.
COACHING STAFF: Leading Washington State for his fifth year is head coach Garrett Clegg…before accepting the head coach position at WSU, Clegg was an assistant coach at Washington for four years… WSU alumnus Dustin White is entering his third season as assistant coach for the Cougars…White golfed for Washington State from 1999-2003…this will be volunteer assistant coach David Nuhn's first season with the team…Nuhn played for Idaho for three years after transferring from Lewis-Clark State College in 2007.
