Two Cougars in Top 25 through One

MAUI, Hawaii – Sophomores Zach Anderson and Derek Bayley are tied for 18th and lead the Washington State men's golf team after one round of play at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational, Friday, at the Royal Ka'anapali Course.
“Derek and Zach made some mistakes but played a solid round today,” WSU Head Coach Garrett Clegg said. “We need to find a way to minimize our mistakes.”
WSU is in 17th place with a score of 298 (+14). No. 13 Oklahoma leads the field after shooting 8-under par (276) on the day. No. 35 NC State is three strokes out of first at 279 (-5), while host-school Hawaii rounds out the top three at 282 (-2).
Anderson and Bayley each shot one-under (70) on the day to tie for 18th, five strokes behind leader Jonny Hogan of Long Beach State (-6, 65). The duo combined for over half of the team's first-round birdies.
Senior Evan Omelia is tied for 62nd (+4, 75), while freshmen Aaron Whalen and Grant Cole are tied for 99th (+12, 83).
