Clinics are one of the best opportunities for prospective athletes to experience WSU Cheer firsthand. Athletes will have the opportunity to showcase their skills, work with our coaching staff and current team members, and learn more about the expectations and culture of our program.

We encourage prospective athletes to attend multiple clinics when possible. Improvement, consistency, coachability, and how an athlete responds to feedback are all important parts of our evaluation process.

We understand that traveling to Pullman is not possible for every prospective athlete, especially those who live out of state. Attending a clinic is strongly encouraged, but it is not required to be recruited by Washington State Cheer.

Athletes who are unable to attend may submit a video showcasing their stunting, tumbling, game day, and performance skills. We also encourage athletes to stay in communication with our coaching staff and provide updates as they develop new skills or gain additional competition experience.

Recruitment is about more than sending a skills video. We want to get to know the athletes interested in our program and encourage prospective Cougs to introduce themselves, ask questions, and stay connected throughout the process.

The following skills represent the minimum expectations for athletes pursuing recruitment with Washington State Cheer. Athletes who exceed these requirements are strongly encouraged to showcase their additional skills.

Stunting

Prospective athletes should be able to demonstrate:

• Toss Extension
• Hands Liberty
• Target Liberty

Tumbling

All athletes are required to demonstrate the following skills on a hard surface without the use of a spring floor:

• Standing Back Tuck
• Standing Two Back Handsprings to Tuck or Higher
• Round Off Back Handspring Tuck or Higher

Beginning with the 2027–2028 season, standing and/or running fulls will be required. Athletes with advanced tumbling are encouraged to showcase those skills throughout the recruitment process.

Our coaching staff evaluates the complete athlete. Recruitment decisions take into consideration stunting and tumbling ability, athleticism, versatility, game day and

performance skills, coachability, work ethic, leadership, character, academic commitment, and overall fit within the culture of Washington State Cheer.

We are looking for athletes who can contribute to our continued competitive growth while representing Washington State University at a high level on the sidelines, in the community, and in the classroom.

Because WSU Cheer recruits throughout the year, offers may be extended at different points during the recruiting cycle. Athletes do not need to wait for a traditional tryout date to earn a position on the team.

Once an offer is accepted, the athlete is officially welcomed to Washington State Cheer and can begin preparing for the upcoming season.
