George Galanopoulos joined the Washington State men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach in 2024, assisting Head Coach David Riley.
During the 2025-26 season, Galanopoulos helped the Cougars produce 303 made 3-pointers while averaging 76.1 points per game and recording 444 assists. The season also featured the development of a young roster, including a freshman who earned All-WCC Freshman Team honors. Galanopoulos continued to contribute to the team’s offensive development and player growth as the Cougars competed throughout the WCC.
In the 2024-25 season, Galanopoulos entered his first year with the WSU men’s basketball team as an assistant coach. During the season, he helped lead the Cougars to a 19-15 overall record and a postseason berth, marking the program’s fourth consecutive postseason appearance. During his first season in Pullman, WSU established school records with 968 field goals and 574 assists. Galanopoulos continues to assist the men’s basketball staff as the Cougars work to establish themselves in the WCC.
From 2019-23, Galanopoulos served as head coach of the NBA G League’s Texas Legends, guiding the team to the conference semifinals during the 2021-22 season. During his time with the Legends, he also worked with the Dallas Mavericks, contributing to film breakdown and player development. Earlier in his coaching career, Galanopoulos served as head coach of the Ugandan men’s national team in 2017, leading the team at the FIBA AfroBasket continental championship.
