WSU Produces Most Wins At First Annual Cougar Invitational Track Meet

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Ian Waltz, Sharika Higgins, Alishia Booterbaugh and Agneta Rosenblad were double winners for the Cougars at the collegiate portion of the First Annual Cougar Invitational Track & Field Meet Friday, at Mooberry Track on the Washington State University campus.
Waltz, a senior All-American, won the men's shot put with a throw of 59-feet, 8 1/2 inches, and claimed the discus championships with a throw of 192-11. Idaho's Joachim Olsen finished second in both events at 59-6 1/4 in the shot and 179-8 in the discus. Both men's marks were well below their NCAA qualifying marks of earlier this season.
Sharika Higgins claimed women's sprints with an 11.81 win in the 100m dash, and a 24.70 in the 200m dash.
Alishia Booterbaugh doubled in the middle distances with a 2:09.94 time in the 800m and barely edged her roommate, Lisa Schaures, for the win in the 1500m where both ran 4:37.18.
Agneta Rosenblad led a trio of Cougars when she won the 100m hurdles in a windy 13.76. Attrina Higgins (14.01w) and Randi Smith (14.02w) were second and third in the intermediate hurdles race. Rosenblad nearly equaled her lifetime best in her long jump win with a distance of 20-8 1/2.
Mostly sunny skies with cool temperatures brought on by the gusty winds was not conducive to spectacular marks.
Other Cougar women winners included: Ryan Gilmore (5000m, personal best time of 9:55.79), Randi Smith (400m hurdles, 60:84), 4x100m relay (S. Higgins, R. Smith, A. Higgins, Sewell, 46.01), Jeannette Martus (pole vault, 11-3 3/4), Cicely Clinkenbeard (triple jump, 40-0), Mandy Borschowa (discus, 164-11), Andrea Thornton (hammer, 180-1), and Molly Monroe (javelin, 147-6).
Winners for the Cougar men included: Scott Johnson (1500m, 4:03.02), Arend Watkins (100m hurdles, 14.63), Demetrius Murray (long jump, 24-8 1/2w), and B.J. Schade (hammer, 193-0).
The prep portion of the Cougar Invitational begins at 10 a.m. Saturday.
