#11 USC Defeats Washington State Volleyball In Three
November 15, 1998
PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Southern California Women of Troy, ranked 11th
nationally, took revenge on the Washington State volleyball team for its
earlier upset win in Los Angeles by schooling the Cougars 15-5, 15-10,
15-10, Sunday afternoon in Beasley Coliseum at Pullman.
WSU is now 11-11 overall, 8-8 and in fifth-place in the Pac-10. USC has a
19-4 overall record and is 14-2 in conference play for second place.
USC's Jasmina Marinkovic led all players with 19 kills, hitting .457 and
recorded four blocks. Jennifer Kessy added 14 kills and hit .480 while
Antoinette Polk tallied 13 kills, hit .462, and recorded 14 digs for the
Trojans.
WSU was led by the 12 kills of Wendy Rouse. Samantha Spink had 37 assists
and the match-high 16 digs. Colleen Smith contributed nine kills and hit
.529. Kristen Johnson and Alicia Erickson each had six kills and three
blocks.
USC out-hit the Cougs .368 to .222.
Washington State wraps up the Pac-10 conference season next weekend in
Arizona, meeting Arizona State Friday, Nov. 20, and Arizona Sunday, Nov.
22. The Cougs then travel across the country for the SEC-Pac-10 Conference
Challenge Tournament featuring Washington, WSU, Florida and South Carolina
Nov. 27-28 at Disney World.
