Cougars Finish Day One in Fifth at Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational

TACOMA, Wash. – Washington State women's golf finished the opening day of the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational in fifth place Monday at Tacoma Country and Golf Club, ending the first two rounds at nine-over par in the 17-team field.

The Cougars opened the tournament with a seven-over team score in the first round before improving by five strokes in the second round, shooting two-over. 

Kaitlyn Helm led the Cougars in the opening round, firing a two-under, 70. Helm played a bogey-free round and recorded birdies on the par-3 15th and 17th holes. She made the turn at one-under with a 35 before matching that score on the back nine. 

Sydney Bisgrove provided the low round for Washington State in Round 2, bouncing back from an opening-round 78 with a two-under, 70. Bisgrove carded four birdies and an eagle in the second round, including a three-under, 33 on the front nine. She finished the day tied for 30th at four-over. 

Melia Cerenzia remained consistent throughout the day, following her opening-round 73 with an even-par 72 in the second round. Cerenzia finished the first 36 holes at one-over and tied for 10th. 

Madalyn Gubernick also put together a strong opening day, shooting a two-over, 74 in the first round before improving to a one-over, 73 in Round 2. She finished the day tied for 22nd at three-over. 

Grace Rubelsky improved by six strokes between rounds, following an opening-round 81 with a three-over, 75 in the second round. Helm finished Round 2 with a five-over, 77 and sits tied for 22nd at three-over overall. 

Competing as individuals, Sara Pineros followed her opening-round one-under, 71 with a four-over, 76 to finish the day at three-over and tied for 22nd. Anya Cedo shot a 76 in the opening round before carding an 81 in Round 2. 

Washington State enters Tuesday's final round in fifth place at nine-over, two strokes behind Grand Canyon in fourth place. The Cougars will look to climb the leaderboard during the final 18 holes at Tacoma Country and Golf Club.
