LOGAN, Utah (October 9, 2026) — Washington State football lost to Utah State 17-16 Friday, scoring all 16 of its points before halftime, including Leo Pulalasi’s 54-yard touchdown run.
Jack Stevens converted all three field-goal attempts, including a long of 50 yards.
Leo Pulalasi rushed eight times for 60 yards and a touchdown.
Caden Pinnick completed 23 of 36 passes for 156 yards and added 16 rushing yards on 11 carries.
Linus Zunk recorded six tackles and a sack.
WSU took advantage of the opening kickoff when Carsten Reynolds recovered a Utah State muff at the USU 25, and Stevens finished the short possession with a 40-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead. The Cougars then put together a 15-play, 54-yard drive, with Pinnick converting fourth-and-2 at the USU 39 before Stevens hit a 43-yard field goal to make it 6-0 through one quarter of play.
The Cougars’ defense turned Utah State away on fourth-and-3 at the WSU 49 in the second, setting up Pulalasi's 54-yard touchdown run on the ensuing drive to help make it 16-3 with 3:32 left in the first half. Earlier, Stevens added a 50-yard field goal, and WSU held USU. to 0-for-5 on third down in the quarter.
Utah State found the end zone in the third quarter to cut into the Cougar lead, making it 16-10 with 7:08 left in the period. The defense limited Utah State’s other two drives to punts, highlighted by sacks from Zunk and Jirah Leaupepetele, and the game entered its final quarter with the Cougars still leading 16-10.
WSU held USU to a punt on their first drive of the fourth, but the Aggies capitalized on a fumble recovery on the following drive at the WSU 19 and turned it into a 2-yard rushing touchdown. After the PAT, that put USU ahead 17-16 with 6:22 left to play, and they would hold onto that lead the rest of the way.
