MADISON, Wis. – The Washington State women’s golf team completed the final round of the Badger Invitational Tuesday, September 15 at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin. The Cougars finished ninth in the 16-team field, battling rainy and windy weather conditions, closing the tournament at 893 (+29). Sophomore Kaitlyn Helm led WSU for the third-straight day, shooting a 73 (+1) to finish the tournament at 218 (+2) and tied for 12th overall.
The Cougars played the final nine holes of the event Tuesday after completing the second round and the front nine of the final round Monday night in anticipation of the overnight weather. WSU carded the lowest score of any team Tuesday, recording a 2-under through the final nine holes.
Returning to a soggy course this morning, Helm recorded three birdies on the back nine, birdying the par-4 14th, par-5 16th and par-3 17th holes. She finished the tournament with rounds of 72, 73 and 73 to post the Cougars’ lowest 54-hole score.
Freshman Madalyn Gubernick carded a 74 (+2) in the final round to finish at 225 (+9) for the tournament. Gubernick made a birdie on the par-4 13th and played the back nine at one-under to close out her first Badger Invitational.
Sydney Bisgrove finished the final round with a 75 (+3), bringing her tournament total to 222 (+6). Bisgrove recorded three birdies during the round, including birdies on the seventh, 13th and 16th holes.
Senior Sara Pineros shot a 76 (+4) Tuesday to finish the tournament at 228 (+12). Pineros made the turn at three-over before recording birdies on the 12th and 16th holes. Grace Rubelsky rounded out the Cougars lineup with a 77 (+5), finishing the tournament at 236 (+20).
Washington State posted a 298 (+10) in Tuesday’s final round, its second-lowest team score of the tournament, to finish the Badger Invitational at 893 (+29).
The Cougars return to action at the Ben Connell Ram Classic, hosted by Colorado State, Sept. 21-22 at Ptarmigan Golf and Country Club in Fort Collins, Colorado.
