Cougar Men Announce 2025-26 Nonconference Schedule

| By:
PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State men's basketball program released its 2025-26 nonconference schedule, Thursday, featuring six home games and a trip to the 2025 Maui Invitational. The Cougars will open the season at home against Idaho, November 3, and play three road games in addition to four neutral site games.

WSU Head Coach David Riley's second season begins Monday, November 3, against regional opponent Idaho in the Battle of the Palouse. The Cougars and Vandals will meet for the 280th all-time meeting, and is one of the most-contested series in NCAA history. The series dates back to 1906 when Washington State Agriculture College defeated Idaho Agriculture College, 28-11, Jan. 13, 1906. The Cougars have won the last six meetings with Idaho, dating back to December 5, 2018, and have won seven of the last eight meetings.

The Cougars take their first road trip of the season, Friday, November 7, to face Davidson in North Carolina. The contest will mark the first meeting between the programs, the two schools to produce the NBA's "Splash Bros," with Klay Thompson a WSU alumnus and Steph Curry a Davidson graduate.

Wazzu returns home for a three-game homestand, beginning Monday, November 10 against Saint Thomas (Minn.) in the first matchup between the schools. At the end of the week, the Cougars will host Washington, Friday night, in the 301st all-time meeting with the Huskies. Coach Riley and the Cougs will conclude the homestand against Southern Utah, Wednesday, November 19.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday break the Cougars will travel to Maui, Hawai'i to participate in the Southwest Maui Invitational for the first time in program history. WSU drew host-school Chaminade in the opening round, Monday, November 24. The Cougars will face Arizona State or Texas in the second round, Tuesday. The final matchup Wednesday will come from the other half of the bracket, featuring Boise State, NC State, Seton Hall, and USC. The entire Maui Invitational will be carried on ESPN networks.

WSU's December schedule begins at Bradley in Peoria, Illinois. The Cougs travel to face the Braves, Tuesday, Dec. 2, in the return of a home-and-home. Last season, the Cougars welcomed Bradley, Nov. 8, defeating the visitors 91-74, in the programs' first meeting since 1949.

Sunday, December 7, the Cougars return to Beasley Coliseum to host the Nevada Wolf Pack. WSU traveled to Reno last season, defeating Nevada in a defensive mud fight, 68-57.

The Cougars return to the road, Sunday, December 14, to face former conference foe Southern California in Los Angeles. WSU and USC faced each other regularly as former Pac-12 members, most recently when the No. 19 Cougs beat the Trojans in Pullman, February 29, 2024. USC holds the all-time historic advantage, while Wazzu has won three of the last four meetings.

WSU will return to Spokane and Spokane Arena, Wednesday, December 17, for the 509 Classic, a neutral site contest against Eastern Washington. Last season, the Cougs defeated the Eagles in Spokane, improving to 59-13 in a series that dates back to 1907.

The Cougs' nonconference schedule wraps up at home, Saturday, December 20, against Mercer in the first all-time meeting between the schools. WSU will take a short break over the Christmas holiday before returning for West Coast Conference action just before the new year.
