WSU Varsity Eight Highlights Day One of Lake Wheeler Invitational

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 25, 2025) – The Washington State women's rowing team had a strong showing on the water Friday, wrapping up day one of the Lake Wheeler Invitational.

"We had a solid day of racing," said Head Coach Jane LaRiviere. "There were many tight races and that is when you really learn. I'm looking forward to tomorrow."

Going up against some of the top teams in the nation, the Cougars placed top-ten in seven of their eight races on the day, and top-five in both 1V8 races.

WSU finished the day strong, as the 1V8 placed second in its heat behind only No. 12 Virgina, and ended up finishing fourth overall in the event among 18 teams ahead of No. 24 North Carolina in a time of 6:36.04. In the morning round of the 1V8, the Cougars placed third in their heat and fifth overall in a time of 6:33.91.

The 1V4 for the Cougars stayed consistent throughout the day, finishing ninth overall in both the morning and afternoon rounds. In the morning WSU crossed the finish line in 7:35.72, and then posted a time of 7:40.13 in the afternoon.

In the afternoon 2V8, Wazzu finished sixth overall and fourth in their heat in 6:43.50 after a 15th-place showing in the morning and placing fourth in their heat with a time of 6:54.42.

The WSU 2V4 had a seventh place showing to end its day with an afternoon time of 7:40.13 after finishing the morning in 10th with a final time of 7:52.34.
