Last Time Out – UW Invite / New Mexico Team Open / Inland Northwest Invitational
It was a record-smashing weekend in which Freshman Rosemary Longisa broke the WSU record for the indoor mile, and Mason Lawyer broke the 34-year-old WSU 200-meter record. Across the three meets, WSU athletes won eight events and set an impressive 28 personal bests. On Friday, Evans Kurui set a personal best mile time and became the third-fastest indoor men's 3000 runner in WSU history. In the Men's Triple Jump, Eli Lawrence set the seventh-best triple jump distance in WSU history and set his own personal best distance. In Spokane on Saturday, the Cougs took both the Men's and Women's 60-meter dash with Keenan Kuntz and Ashley Hollenbeck Willems winning their respective events.
Kurui Named MPSF Men's Athlete of the Week
WSU freshman Evans Kurui was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Kurui, from Eldorat, Kenya, took home the victory in the Men's 3000-meter race last Friday in Seattle at the UW Invite. Kurui crossed the tape in 7-minutes, 48.44 seconds, his lifetime best and the 12th-fastest time in the NCAA this season. The victory was Kurui's first and narrowly missed eclipsing Track and Field legend Henry Rono's WSU freshman record of 7:47.4 set in 1977. Kurui now ranks third overall in WSU history in this event.Â
