Smith's High Jump Victory Highlights Day 1 at Riverfront Invitational
SPOKANE, Wash. — Sophomore
Antoni Smith captured the High Jump title with a personal-best leap of 2.09 meters (6'10.25") to highlight Washington State's first day at the Riverfront Invitational at The Podium. Additionally, seven other Cougs set personal bests in a short but successful day in Spokane.
Smith, who missed his first two attempts at 1.90m, made his third and proceeded to clear the next three heights on three total jumps. At 2.09m, he cleared on his second attempt before just missing on three tries at 2.12m. His mark of 2.09m bettered his previous season-best of 2.04m (6'8.25").
Senior
Ashley Hollenbeck Willems won the Women's 200-meter Collegiate race with a personal-best time of 24.41 seconds. That mark is six-hundredths outside of the top-10 best times in WSU history and ranks as the sixth-best in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation this season.
In the Women's 200-meter Invite, sophomore
Brooke Lyons finished fourth in a personal best time of 23.95 seconds, the second-fastest 200-meter time in WSU indoor history and just four-tenths of a second behind the current record holder,
Jasneet Nijjar. The time is tops in the MPSF this season.
The Men's Weight Throw proved to be a successful event for Cougar athletes, with four of the six competing setting personal best distances.
Caden Hottman led the Cougs with a distance of 18.01 meters, good enough for fourth place. Tristan Webb also finished in the top 10 with a personal-best distance of 17.68 meters.
