SEATTLE, Wash. (November 3, 2024) – The Washington State women's rowing team wrapped up their fall portion of competition at the Head of the Lake on Sunday morning at Lake Washington.
"It was a solid morning of racing for the Cougs," said Head Coach
Jane LaRiviere. "All the boats have been steadily improving week to week and that's what you hope for. Kudos to the 2v8 and 3V8 for bringing home some hardware."
The Cougars opened the day with the women's collegiate eight heat as the 1V8 raced with some of the top boats in the region. WSU placed fifth in 16:59.82 behind the Washington boats, and just four-tenths of a second behind fourth-place Gonzaga (16:59.42).
Then in the women's collegiate JV 8+, the Cougar 2V8 was the first to cross the finish in 17:17.88, about 25 seconds faster than the next three finishers, Gonzaga (17:42.08), Washington 'A' (17:42.58) and Washington 'B' (17:42.99).
The Cougs saw one more win in their final event of the day, the women's collegiate 3V8+, as the team's 3V8 boat placed first in 17:48.78. The first-place 3V8 finished ahead of the Washington 'A' (18:04.03), the British Columbia 'A' (18:13.29) and the Washington 'B' (18:19.78), before the Cougar 4V8 placed fifth in 18:25.06.
Having now completed their three fall regattas, the team will now focus on training over the winter months ahead of the spring championship season which will start March 29-30 at the San Diego Crew Classic.
