The Washington State University Athletics Emerging Leaders Group (ELG) is designed to provide staff with opportunities for personal and professional development outside of their day-to-day scope of business. Participants represent a diverse group of staff from throughout the department allowing greater opportunities for collaboration. The 2021-22 cohort comprised of Ben Clarke, Heather Erwin, Dr. Shelby McKay and Johanna Pfeiffer.
The group completed the year-long program in June 2022 after two department-wide projects, professional development site visits, and informational interviews with visiting athletic directors and senior leadership. Projects included the Power of IX Campaign and staff culture engagement. The ELG traveled to Seattle and visited with Microsoft, the Seattle Seahawks, University of Washington administration, and the Seattle Kraken. Additionally, the group traveled to Spokane and visited with Gonzaga University administration, The Podium, Spokane Teachers Credit Union and Spiceology.
The new 2022-23 cohort will include Shae Carson, Nick Garner, Robert Harris, Janelle Nguyen, Hanna Paper, and Russell Whitaker. The new ELG will complete a unique project, learn from seasoned athletic administrators and coaches, with the focus on leadership development.
