No. 66 Cougars Take Down LCSC, 7-0

PULLMAN, Wash. – The No. 66 Washington State tennis team won its second match of the day with a 7-0 sweep against Lewis-Clark State, Sunday at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse. With the win the Cougars improve to 12-0 on the season.
Beginning with doubles play, the No. 3 pair of Aneta Miksovska and Barbora Michalkova swept, Anna Rodriguez and Deanri Human 6-0, while Donika Bashota and Lize Leenknecht posted the same score knocking-off Lauren Lang and Stephanie Buckingham 6-0 at No. 1 to clinch the point. The No.2 duo of Trang Huynh and Victoria Matejevic led Hannah Uhlenkott and Kianna Arthur, 4-2, when the match was stopped.
In singles action, No. 3 Michalkova put WSU up 2-0 by defeating Buckingham in a two-set sweep 6-0, 6-0. At No. 4, Huynh followed her lead, posting the 6-0, 6-0 two-set sweep victory over Human to give WSU the 3-0 lead.
At No. 2, Bashota clinched the match for the Cougars with an easy 6-1, 6-1 win over Uhlenkott. Maria Biryukova, at No. 1, kept the Cougars hot streak alive by dominating Lang 6-1, 6-2 putting WSU 5-0.
Leenknecht defeated Rodriguez in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5, while No. 6 Miksovska finished the day off strong by defeating Jen Roux 6-0, 6-2 completing the Cougars sweep.
The Cougars are back on the road next week as they face No. 28 Fresno State Friday Feb. 26, at noon, and are slated to play Saturday Feb. 27 at 11 a.m., taking on No. 44 St. Mary's.
