Men’s Golf to Compete at Saint Mary’s Invitational

The Cougars will travel to California for the final tournament of the fall season.
THIS WEEK: The Washington State men's golf team travels to Monterey, Calif., for the Saint Mary's Invitational, Oct. 24-26, at Poppy Hills Golf Course.
THE COURSE: The three-day tournament will take place at Poppy Hills Golf Course, a 6,868-yard track at a par-71…teams will play 18 holes each day beginning Monday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 a.m…the second round will begin Tuesday at 7:30 a.m., with the tournament concluding Wednesday starting at 7:30 a.m.
THE FIELD: Joining host-school Saint Mary's in the 14-team field will be Arizona, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon State, San Diego State, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Texas State, Toledo, and UC Santa Barbara…San Diego State (17th) is currently ranked in the top-25.
REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougars will be sophomore AJ Armstrong, senior Nick Mandell, freshman Daniel Kolar, junior Zach Anderson, and sophomore Grant Cole. Freshman Nicklaus Chiam will compete as an individual.
LAST TIME AT THE SAINT MARY'S INVITATIONAL: WSU finished ninth (+52, 904) at last year's tournament…Derek Bayley tied for 25th (+11, 224)…Nick Mandell tied for 37th place (+15, 228)…AJ Armstrong and Aaron Whalen tied for 46th (+17, 230) and 61st (+23, 236), respectively…Zach Anderson tied for 63rd place (+25, 238).
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: WSU tied for eighth (+21, 885) with Northern Colorado at the Paintbrush Invitational, Oct. 10-11…Nick Mandell and AJ Armstrong finished in the top-25, tying for 23rd (+3, 219) and 25th (+4, 220), respectively…Zach Anderson tied for 44th with a three-round score of 226 (+10)…Grant Cole tied for 51st (+11, 227)…Derek Bayley withdrew from the tournament due to injury.
COACHING STAFF: The team is led by first-year head coach Dustin White…White was an assistant coach at WSU before accepting the head coach position…White golfed for the Cougars from 1999-2003…assistant coach Chris Gilbert joined the WSU coaching staff this season…Gilbert graduated from Kansas in 2013 and turned pro the same year before accepting the assistant coach position.
