THIS WEEK: The Washington State men's golf team will compete at the Paintbrush Invitational hosted by the University of Denver, Oct. 10-11, at the Colorado Golf Club.
PAINTBRUSH INVITATIONAL: The Colorado Golf Club is a 7,357 yard track at a par-72…the course hosted the 2010 Senior PGA Championship…The first and second rounds will take place Monday, Oct. 10, beginning at 7:30 a.m. PT/8:30 a.m. MT…the final round will take place Tuesday, Oct. 11.
THE FIELD: Joining host-school Denver in the 15-team tournament will be Air Force, Colorado, Colorado State, Iowa, Loyola Marymount, New Mexico, Northern Colorado, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas Tech, and Wyoming…Oklahoma State (sixth), Texas Tech (13th), and Colorado (17th) are currently ranked in the top-25.
REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougars will be juniors Derek Bayley and Zach Anderson, sophomores AJ Armstrong and Grant Cole, and senior Nick Mandell.
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: WSU finished eighth (+2, 866) at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, Sept. 26-27…Derek Bayley led the team with a top-10 finish, shooting 5-under par (211) and tying for ninth place…Nick Mandell shot even par to tie for 30th (216)…AJ Armstrong tied for 41st with a three round score of 218…Zach Anderson and Nicklaus Chiam tied for 60th (+5, 221) and 99th place (+17, 233), respectively.
COACHING STAFF: The men's golf team is led by first-year head coach, Dustin White…White was an assistant coach at WSU for three years prior to accepting the head coach position…White golfed for the Cougars from 1999-2003…assistant coach Chris Gilbert is new to the coaching staff this season…Gilbert graduated from Kansas in 2013 as a two-time individual medalist…Gilbert turned pro in 2013 before accepting the assistant coach position.
