PULLMAN, Wash. --Washington State's Greer Alsop broke the women 's triple jump record Friday evening during the first day of the 14th Annual WSU Open Indoor Track & Field meet at the Indoor Facility in Pullman.
Alsop, a redshirt sophomore from Invercargill, New Zealand, triple jumped 40-feet, 8 3/4 inches (12.41m), leading a one-two-three Cougar finish. Alsop broke the WSU Open meet record of 40-6 (12.34m) set in 2008 by WSU's Sarah Burns. Kiana Davis (junior, Longview, Wash.) took second place with a PR leap of 39-10 1/2 (12.15m) and Kayla Warren (senior, Seattle) took third with a PR mark of 39-6 (12.04m).
Brock Eager, a sophomore from Renton, Wash., won the 35-pound weight with a PR distance of 63-2 3/4 (19.27m), the seventh-best throw in WSU all-time. Teammate Travis Pickett (redshirt junior, Snohomish, Wash.), was the runner-up with a heave of 58-7 1/2 (17.87m). Cougar freshman Wyatt Meyring (junior, Edmonds, Wash.) placed fourth with a throw 53-7 (16.33m).
In the women's 20-pound weight throw, Eastern Washington's Kaytlyn Coleman won with a throw of 61-4 3/4 (18.71m) and WSU's Katie Wardsworth placed third with a PR toss of 53-5 3/4 (16.30m).
WSU's Kristine Felix (senior, Wailuku, Hawai'i), competing unattached, won the women's pole vault with a height of 13-7 1/4 (4.15m) which tied the meet record held by Ebbie Metzinger (unattached, 2005). Freshman Katelyn Frost (Corvallis, Mont.) took third place with a PR leap of 12-1 1/2 (3.70m).
Anthony Johnson from Evergreen State won the men's triple jump with a leap of 46-8 (14.22m).
The WSU Open Indoor Track and Field meet continues Saturday, Jan. 23, at 9:30 a.m. at the WSU Indoor Facility. No charge for spectators.
