PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State men's golf team will host a fall tournament and travel to Hawaii twice as part of its 2015-16 tournament schedule, WSU Head Coach Garrett Clegg announced Friday.
"I'm really looking forward to getting the season started with this team," Clegg said. "These student-athletes are the future of the program and they've been playing this summer and putting in good performances. Some of our underclassmen are looking to step up and become leaders in this program. We've got an extremely competitive schedule this year - probably the most competitive in the time I've been here."
The Cougars will open their 2015-16 season in Pebble Beach, Calif., at the Saint Mary's Invitational, Sept. 14-16. Teams will compete at the recently-renovated Poppy Hills Golf Course in a 15-team field, 10 of which ranked in the top 100 in the final Golfstat national rankings. In the second tournament of the season, WSU will travel west to Cle Elum, Wash., for the annual Husky Invitational, Sept. 21-22. The Cougars will return to Pullman, Sept. 28-29, to host their annual Itani Quality Homes Collegiate at WSU's Palouse Ridge Golf Club.
Washington State's October schedule begins will a cross-country trip to Windermere, Fla., for the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational. The event, co-hosted by Texas Tech and UCF, will play at the Isleworth Golf and Country Club, Oct. 18-20.
To conclude the fall season, WSU will make its first of two trips to the Hawaiian Islands. The WSU men will compete in the Kaanapali Collegiate Classic, Nov. 6-8, in Lahaina, Hawaii.
The Cougars will take a two-month winter break before beginning their spring season, Jan. 29-30, in Tucson, Ariz., at the Arizona Intercollegiate. In February, Washington State will return to Hawaii for the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Lihue, Hawaii. The trip marks WSU's fourth-straight appearance in the annual tournament.
Three of the Cougars final four tournaments will take place in the Pacific Northwest. WSU will travel to Bandon, Ore., March 6-8, to compete in the Bandon Dunes Championships for the fourth-consecutive year. The Cougars will stay in Oregon for the Oregon State Invitational, March 21-22 in Canby. WSU will make a trip across the Cascades to compete at the prestigious Chambers Bay Golf Club in Seattle's Redhawk Invitational, April 4-5.
For its final tournament of the regular season, WSU will travel to Provo, Utah for the PING Cougar Classic, April 11-12. The tournament marks Washington State's first trip to Provo since competing in the 2011 PING Cougar Classic.
To conclude the season WSU will travel to Salt Lake City, Utah to compete in the 2016 Pac-12 Men's Golf Championships.
With six returning student-athletes, the Cougars will look to build upon last season's success, which saw WSU earn its fifth team title in four seasons. For complete information include tournament previews and recaps, check wsucougars.com.
