Men's Golf Travels to Florida

THIS WEEK: The Washington State University men's golf team will compete at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational, at Orlando, Fla., Sunday through Tuesday, Oct. 18-20, at the Isleworth Golf and Country Club.
THE TOURNAMENT: One round will be played each of the three days starting at 8 a.m. on the par-72, 7,544-yard track.…the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational is the premier collegiate golf tournament in the country, as The Tavistock Group is committed to creating an experience similar to a PGA Tour event…the tournament alternates between Isleworth Golf & Country Club and Lake Nona Golf & Country Club, which have both been consistently rated the top courses in Florida and in the country.
THE FIELD: Joining host-schools UCF and Texas Tech in the 15-team tournament will be seven of Golfweek's top 30 teams in the country, including No. 1 Illinois, No. 10 North Carolina, No. 11 Arizona State, No. 16 Vanderbilt, No. 18 Florida, No. 23 South Carolina, and No. 30 California…also competing will be Augusta, New Mexico, North Florida, Ohio State, UNLV, and Washington State, making its tournament debut.
REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougar men will be freshmen Aaron Whalen and AJ Armstrong, sophomores Derek Bayley and Zach Anderson, and junior Nick Mandell.
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: In addition to winning the 2015 Itani Quality Homes Collegiate, Sept. 28-29, at Palouse Ridge Golf Course, the men's golf team set a tournament record for lowest team three-round score at 819 (-33), breaking its previous record of 827 (-25), set in 2010…Bayley shot the lowest three-round score in tournament history at 201 (-12) in a first-place finish…Whalen finished four strokes behind Bayley to place second in his best performance of the season...in a career-best finish, Mandell tied for fourth (-6, 207)…four other Cougars finished in the top 25.
COACHING STAFF: The men's golf team is led by fifth-year head coach Garrett Clegg…assisting Clegg is WSU alumnus Dustin White, a third-year assistant coach who golfed for the Cougars from 1999-2003…new to the coaching staff this year is volunteer assistant coach David Nuhn, who golfed for Idaho from 2008-2010.
