Jay Miller was a four-year letter-winner for the Cougar baseball team from 2002-06, ending his career as Washington State’s all-time hits leader. Miller, from Bellevue, Wash., made an immediate impact, leading WSU in batting average (.341), hits (72) and doubles (21) en route to All-Pacific-10 Conference honorable mention honors. Miller continued his assault on the Cougar record book, leading the team in batting average and hits three of his four seasons. He saved his best for last, earning third-team All-America and first-team Pac-10 honors as a senior. That season he batted .361, sixth in the Pac-10, and led the conference in hits (88) and doubles (28), the latter total second in the NCAA. He finished his career as WSU’s career hits leader with 307. That total placed him ninth all-time in the Pac-10, while his 74 career doubles were second all-time at WSU and the fifth-most in Pac-10 history. Miller was also tied for third all-time in games played (227), fifth in walks (107), sixth in runs scored (161) and tied for ninth in RBIs (147). Taken in the 17th round by the Philadelphia Phillies, Miller played three seasons in the organization, totaling 197 hits and 29 doubles.
