Clem Eischen was an accomplished middle distance runner for Washington State, tallying three All-America certificates and competing as an Olympian in track. As a freshman in 1946, he finished fifth in the 1500 meters at the NCAA Championships. Two years later, he was sixth in the mile. A month after the collegiate championships, Eischen was a surprise second-place finisher in the 1500 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials. At the 1948 London Olympic Games, he was sixth in his prelim heat for the event and did not advance to the final. In 1951, Eischen joined Lee Cave, George Stimic and Bill Parnell to win the 2-mile relay and set a meet record at the prestigious Drake Relays. Later that year, he finished second in the 880 at the NCAA meet. After leaving Washington State, Eischen taught at Fort Vancouver High and coached the 1961 Trapper track team to the state title.
