Allan Kennedy was a two-time All-America offensive lineman for the Cougars and later helped the San Francisco 49ers win two Super Bowls. The Woodland Hills, Calif., native attended Washington State from 1976-80 and was a four-year starter while playing for three different head coaches: Jackie Sherrill, Warren Powers and Jim Walden. Known as “Big Al” because he was one of the Cougars first “big” offensive lineman, the 6-7, 275-pound Kennedy was a legendary team leader. Kennedy began his WSU career in 1976, starting as a true freshman and emerged as one of the elite lineman in the country in 1979, earning All-American honorable mention, All-West Coach and All-Pacific-10 Conference First Team honors at right tackle. As a senior in 1980, Kennedy was named a team captain, earned first-team All-America honors and was selected to play in the 1981 Japan Bowl All-Star Game. Kennedy, who earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, was taken in the tenth round of the 1981 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins and later played five seasons in San Francisco, helping the 49ers win a pair of Super Bowls in the 1981 and 1984 seasons before he retired in 1986.
