CAREER – Ranks on WSU’s all-time list for assist average (eighth – 3.6 apg), free throw percentage (ninth – .810) and 3-point field goals (12th – 135).
SOPHOMORE (2017-18) – Started 30 of 31 games played for the Cougars…averaged a team second-best and Pac-12 11th-best 15.8 points per game, while adding a team-high and Pac-12 eighth-best 4.3 assists per game…his team-leading 77 3-pointers made marked the most by a Cougar since Klay Thompson set the school record with 98 in 2011, while his 2.5 3-pointers per game ranked fifth in the Pac-12 and 133rd in the nation…played a team-high 33.2 minutes per game, the 13th-most in the Pac-12…also led the team in steals with 49, for a 1.9 spg average….had first 20-point game of the season Nov. 24 against Saint Mary’s at the Wooden Legacy with 26 points, following it up with 24 points in the championship game win over San Diego State (Nov. 26)…was named Most Valuable Player of the Wooden Legacy, averaging 18.6 points and shooting 12-0f-24 from 3-point range in three games…ended the season scoring in double figures in nine of the final 11 games…during that span, recorded only career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 11 assists against Arizona (Jan. 31)…had career-highs of 30 points and 11 made field goals in a win over Colorado (Feb. 15)… tallied career-highs of 42 minutes played, 7 free throws made and 4 steals in WSU’s win over Oregon (March 1)…led the Cougars in scoring 12 times, reaching double figures in 22 games and the 20-point plateau 10 times…ranks on WSU’s career records for 3-pointers made (12- 135), free throw percentage (ninth- .810), and assist average (eighth- 3.6)…ranks on WSU’s single-season list for 3-pointers made (T-seventh – 77) and free throw percentage (11th – .846)…ranks on WSU’s sophomore single-season list for 3-point field goals made (first – 77), 3-point field goal attempts (first – 228), assists (first – 132), assists average (second – 4.3), minutes played (second – 1,035), points (sixth – 489), steals (fourth – 49), scoring average (seventh – 15.8) and field goals made (seventh – 162)…named Pac-12 Second Team All-Academic with a 3.27 cumulative grade point average.
FRESHMAN (2016-17) – Started in all 31 games for the Cougars, becoming only the third WSU true freshman to start every game they played in…earned Pac-12 All-Freshmen Honorable Mention honors…averaged 33.1 minutes, 9.7 points, 2.9 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game…had breakout game at home against Utah Valley (Nov. 30), finishing with a career-high 27 points on 11-for-14 shooting from the field…the 11 field goals made are a WSU freshman single-game record…recorded a career-high 9 rebounds in the season opener against Montana State (Nov. 11), just one rebound away from a double-double after adding 10 points…played a career-high 39 minutes against Oregon (Jan. 7)…tallied a career-high 3 steals at home against USC (Feb. 4)...had career-highs of 7 assists and 4 3-point field goals made against Arizona State (Feb. 18)...notched a conference-high 20 points at California (Jan. 14) shooting 8-for-15 (.533) from the field…the 15 field goal attempts were a career high…logged 14 double-digit scoring efforts on the season and led Washington State in scoring twice…ranks on WSU’s freshman single-season list for points (ninth – 302), assists (sixth – 91), assist average (sixth – 2.9), 3-point field goals (fourth – 58), 3-point field goal percentage (seventh – 58-150, .347), and minutes played (second – 1,027).
HIGH SCHOOL – Earned three varsity letters in basketball at Bellarmine Prep under head coach Bernie Salazar where he compiled 1,625 career points, ranking second in school history…finished second in Bellarmine Prep history for career steals…as a SENIOR, averaged 29.7 points per game, while shooting .480 from the field and .880 from the free throw line…added 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists an outing…his 743 points in his final year set a Bellarmine Prep single-season scoring record, breaking the mark set by current NBA player, Avery Bradley, in 2008….that year, helped lead the Lions to a 20-6 overall mark, and 12-0 league record, as the team fell in the 4A Regionals…in four 4A West Central District tournament games, scored 149 points, averaging 37.0 points per game, breaking the tournament scoring record…following his senior season, was named the Washington state player of the year for all classifications by the Associated Press, as well as the AP’s State 4A Player of the Year and to the AP’s first team all-State…was also named the Tacoma News Tribune All-Area Player of the Year, Class 4A Narrows League MVP and Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches’ Association 4A Player of the Year.
PERSONAL – Born Malachi Flynn, May of 1998 at Tacoma, Wash….parents Eric and Kristi Flynn…has six older siblings…sister Angelica (Flynn) Anderson and brother-in-law Jeshua Anderson competed in track and field at Washington State, as Jeshua was a three-time NCAA outdoor 400-meter hurdles champion and also competed on the football team…sister-in-law Joffrey Flynn attended WSU and nephew Nathan Doyle also attends Washington State…brothers Isaiah Flynn and Josias Flynn played basketball collegiately at Tacoma Community College and Truman State, respectively, while cousins Janessa and Alex Flynn played softball at Howard...is undecided on major at WSU.
