Jalon Bibbs

  • Title
    Defensive Line Coach
Jalon Bibbs begins his first season as Washington State’s defensive line coach on Head Coach Jimmy Rogers staff.

Bibbs arrived in Pullman having spent the past two seasons in a similar role on Rogers staff at South Dakota State after joining the Jackrabbit staff in the spring of 2023.

During the 2024 season, where SDSU reached the FCS Championship semifinals, the defensive line led the way as SDSU led all of FCS in defensive scoring at 13.9 ppg, while also ranking fifth in rushing defense at 93.2 ypg allowed. As a group, the d-line collected 24 sacks and 37 tackles-for-loss, led by all-MVFC honorable mention tackle Kobe Clayborne, with 4.5 sacks and 5.5 TFLs.

In helping guide the Jackrabbits to their second consecutive Football Championship Subdivision national title during the 2023 campaign, Bibbs directed a unit that contributed greatly to the Jackrabbits leading the FCS in numerous team defensive categories, including scoring defense (9.3 points per game), total defense (257.2 yards per game), turnovers gained (29) and red-zone defense (.588).

As a whole, the Jackrabbit front four combined for 22 sacks and 46.5 tackles for loss. Fourteen different defensive linemen registered at least one tackle for loss.

Individually, defensive end Cade Terveer was a first-team all-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection after posting a team-high 7.5 sacks and defensive tackle Ryan Van Marel earned second-team all-MVFC honors.

Prior to South Dakota State, Bibbs coached the defensive line at perennial NCAA Division II national contender Grand Valley State, which compiled a 40-8 record over four seasons and made three postseason appearances. In 2019, the Lakers ranked in the top 10 of six different defensive categories, including leading the D-II ranks in red-zone defense and fewest passing touchdowns allowed. While at GVSU, Bibbs mentored a total of 15 all-conference defensive linemen and two All-Americans.

In addition to his on-field duties at GVSU, Bibbs served as the program's academic and travel coordinator.

At SDSU, Bibbs returned to the state in which he played his college ball and also previously coached. During the 2017 season, he coached the defensive line at his alma mater, Northern State, as the Wolves finished with a 6-5 record. Bibbs previously played at NSU from 2011-14.

Bibbs began his coaching career as outside linebackers coach at St. Cloud State from 2015-16, with four of his players earning all-Northern Sun Individual honors. He also performed the duties of assistant academic director for athletic and multi-cultural success.
