Longrus and Hawkinson Named Pac-12 All-Academic

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Washington State University junior, Junior Longrus, and sophomore, Josh Hawkinson, have been named to the 2015 Pac-12 Men’s Basketball All-Academic Second Team, conference commissioner Larry Scott announced Friday.
With Longrus and Hawkinson’s selection, a Cougar has earned all-academic honors nine of the last 10 seasons and 23 times over the last nine years. This year marks the first since 2012 that at least two Cougars were named to an all-academic team.
Five of the Pac-12 schools were represented on the first and second teams, as Utah had two first team honorees one second team and an honorable mention, Stanford had one first team honoree and two on the second team, while Arizona State and Washington each had one first team selection. California had two honorable mention all-academic, while Oregon State and USC each had one.
A native of Oakland, Calif., Longrus is majoring in management and operations with a 3.30 grade point average. This season marks the second-straight that Longrus has been named second team all-academic. This season he played all 31 games for the Cougars, starting 11. He averaged 1.5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.
A native of Shoreline, Wash., Hawkinson is undeclared with a 3.24 GPA. He started 29 of WSU’s 31 games, averaging a team second-best and Pac-12 11th-best, 14.7 points per game. Hawkinson led the Pac-12 and ranked in the top-10 in the nation with 10.8 rebounds per game, while he set WSU single-season records with 334 rebounds and 20 double-doubles in 2014-15.
One team of five student-athletes make up the first team, followed by the next five making up the second team. All others nominated receive honorable mention accolades. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
