Greeny Announces Volleyball Assistant Coaches

April 13, 2011
PULLMAN - Jen Greeny, Washington State University volleyball head coach, announced the addition of assistant coaches Pat Stangle and Burdette Greeny, to her staff Wednesday.
"Pat brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to WSU Volleyball," Greeny said. "His values and hard work shine through and we are excited to have him join the Cougar Volleyball family. Burdette was an integral part of the success we had at LC State, taking on most of the recruiting responsibilities and bringing in top quality players and people, laying the groundwork for our success. Pat and Burdette are very well respected by high school, club, and college coaches throughout the country."
Stangle, 47, is originally from Spokane, Wash. He was the head coach at the University of Wyoming from 2004 through 2007 with a record of 50-59. Prior to Wyoming, Stangle was the top assistant coach at the University of Washington from 2002-03, and was instrumental in the Huskies' 43-20 overall record. He recruited the UW team members who competed in a long line of NCAA Championship tournaments including winning the 2005 national title.
From 1997 through 2001, Stangle coached at Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kan., where the Lady Saints were 225-34 in five seasons. He led the volleyball team to three straight NJCAA Region VI titles from 1999-2001, and three appearances in the NJCAA National Championships. Stangle earned conference and district Coach-of-the-Year honors and coached 18 NJCAA All-Region players and six NJCAA All-Americans.
Stangle began his coaching career as the head coach at Central College in McPherson, Kansas, leading the team to the school's first regional tournament appearance and returned the following year.
A 1988 graduate from Hardin-Simmons University (Abilene, Texas), Stangle played middle blocker on the Cowboy's men's volleyball team. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and went on to earn his MBA in 1993 from the University of Texas-San Antonio.
For the past three years Stangle has coached for the Alamo Volleyball Association in San Antonio, Texas. He and his wife, Melissa, have two sons, Casey and Doak, and one daughter, Haley.
Burdette Greeny, 36, assisted his wife, Jen Greeny, at Lewis-Clark State College from 2007-10, taking on recruiting, strength and conditioning and skill technique coaching duties. In 2009, Greeny was one of 20 assistant coaches nominated for the NAIA National Assistant Coach of the Year Award. Greeny's recruiting resume at LCSC included three Junior College First Team All-Americans, one Junior College Second Team All-American, one Gatorade State Player of the Year, two state players of the year, and 12 first team all-state selections.
Greeny was an all-league performer in both basketball and baseball at Port Angeles High (Washington). The Tacoma News Tribune named Greeny one of the top ten pitchers in the state in 1993. That year he was drafted by the New York Mets in the 32nd round but chose to stay in school and attended Tacoma Community College from 1993 to 1995 where he played both basketball and baseball. He pitched for Washington State in 1997 and then signed as a free agent with the Milwaukee Brewers before the 1998 draft and was with the team for two seasons.
Burdette Greeny earned a degree in humanities with an emphasis in English from WSU. From 2000-07 he was the head coach in the Pullman American Legion Baseball organization. His teams won two regular season titles, one district title, and made the first appearance by a Pullman team at the state tournament since 1968. In addition, Greeny's Pullman team tallied the first state tournament win in the 60-year history of the program. Of his American Legion players, 88 percent went on to play college baseball.
The Greenys have two daughters, Lauren and Leah.
Jen Greeny expects to announce a Volleyball Operations Coordinator in the next month.
