


WSU Volleyball Sweeps Oregon State

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State won its second consecutive and third
overall Pacific-10 Conference match Friday night with a 15-7, 15-13, 15-11
win over Oregon State before 2,036 fans at Beasley Coliseum.
Washington State is now 3-3 in Pac-10, 6-6 overall while Oregon State drops
to 0-6 in league, 10-7 overall.
Jennifer Stinson and Wendy Rouse led the Cougars with 13 kills each while
freshman Alicia Erickson added 10 points. Stinson and Erickson had
match-high six blocks each. Setter Samantha Spink tallied 46 assists while
junior Joy Sperry had a match-high 10 digs. For the second straight match,
Kim Kleven had three service aces.
OSU was led by the 14 kills and four blocks of Angie Shirley (Hayden,
Idaho). Sarah Bjeldanes and Gina Schmidt had 10 kills each.
WSU led game one from start to finish and tallied eight points before the
Beavers got on the board. WSU hit .355 while OSU's hitting percentage was
.118.
Oregon State was ahead in the second game 13-9 before Rouse contributed
three kills and the Cougs capitalized on four hitting errors by OSU and win
15-13.
The third game was tied at six before the Cougar momentum took over and
Spink put the ball in the front row hitters' - Erickson and Colleen Smith -
hands for a 15-11 win.
Washington State hosts Oregon at Beasley Coliseum Sunday, Oct. 11, in a 1
p.m. conference match.
