PHILLEY'S HIGH SCHOOL CAREER
Earned three varsity letters in both football and baseball...football coach Steve Gervais...running back and linebacker...as a SOPHOMORE named to the all-league first team in baseball as an outfielder...JUNIOR year an all-league first team pick as a running back rushing for over 900 yards...won baseball's captain award...SENIOR season led the state in rushing with 693 yards and 12 touchdowns before injuring season ending meniscus tear ... first team All-State pick for baseball ... averaged .425 batting, four home runs and over 20 stolen bases.

  • Freshman (1996-97): Redshirt season ... earned defensive scout team award the week of the Oregon game ... was a member of the Cougar baseball season ... reserve outfielder, appearing in 25 games, hitting .333 ... broken thumb kept him on the bench late in the season.
  • RS-Freshman (1997-98): V-letter ... appeared in 11 games as a backup linebacker and a member of special teams ... missed the Arizona game with a stomach virus ... named honorable mention Pac-10 all-around special teams player as voted by league's coaches ... recorded eight total tackles ... caused a fumble on a kickoff against Southwestern Louisiana ... received the following team awards: Specialist of the Week - UCLA, California; Most Disciplined Special Teams Player - UCLA; Big Hit - USC; Special Teams Big Play - Southwestern Louisiana ... redshirt season in baseball.
  • RS-Sophomore (1998-99): V-letter...played in all 11 games started nine, including the last four...finished fifth with 57 tackles, including 43 primary...had five TFL...best outing nine tackles against Arizona State and eight against Oregon...also had seven in back-to-back games at California and at UCLA...had at least two tackles in each of the 11 games...earned the following game awards: Cougar Claw - Illinois; Big Hit - BSU, Idaho; Defensive Pursuit - California; Cougar Tackler - California.
  • RS-Junior (1999-00): V-letter...injuries, including a severe hamstring pull, limited action to seven games...moved to running back during the summer to help shore up the position after the loss of Kevin Brown...against Louisiana carried five times, gaining nine yards...caught his only pass against Cal, a 27 yard gain...missed the Stanford game early in the year with a hip bruise and then forced to the side lines for four of the last five games because of the hamstring pull.
