Washington State Sweeps Cal In Volleyball October 30, 1998 PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State University defeated California 15-4, 15-11, 15-11, in a Pac-10 volleyball match Friday night before 1,955 fans in Beasley Coliseum. Washington State is now 6-5 and in fifth place in the Pac-10, 9-8 overall. California drops to 2-10 in conference action, tied for eighth place, 6-10 overall. The Cougars were led by the 18 kills of senior Wendy Rouse who hit .469 for the three games. WSU freshman Alicia Erickson had a career-high 15 kills, hit .481 and a match-high six blocks. Freshman Missy Blackshire added 11 kills while Samantha Spink had 50 assists and 12 digs. WSU had a season-high .338 hitting percentage. California was led by the 19 kills of Alicia Perry. She also tallied 13 digs and four blocks. Sara Waltman had a match-high 15 digs. Kelly Meyer added 13 kills and four blocks. The Cougars dominated the first two games with Cal showing life in the third game keeping within one up to a 10-all tie. Blackshire's three kills and a service ace gave WSU the game and the match. Washington State hosts fifth-ranked and Pac-10 leader Stanford Sunday, Nov. 1, in a 1 p.m. match at Beasley Coliseum. Washington State (6-5, 9-8) d.
