PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State men's basketball redshirt-sophomore Parker Gerrits was named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic Team, the organization announced Wednesday. Gerrits, a finance major, held a 3.78 grade point average through the fall semester. WSU junior Rihards Vavers earned All-Academic Honorable Mention.
Gerrits earned his first All-WCC honor, boasting the Cougars' top GPA for a returning student-athlete. Gerrits efforts earned him recognition on the WSU President's Honor Roll and December Student-Athlete of the Month. The Olympia, Washington native, has played every game each of the last two seasons, including all 31 games this season. Gerrits averages 1.8 points per game while playing just over nine minutes per game.
Vavers earned a nod as a WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention with a 3.34 grade point average. The Latvian native, taking university courses in a second language, is a Sport Management major, with an emphasis in business.
Washington State continues its season, Friday, March 6, at the Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Championships. The Cougars enter as the No. 8 seed and await the winner of Portland versus Pepperdine for a 6 p.m. tipoff at Orleans Arena and live on ESPN+.
