Cougars Shut Out Seattle U, 10-0 in Bellevue

BELLEVUE, Wash. (March 31, 2026) – Four Washington State pitchers combined for a two-hit shutout in a 10-0 win over Seattle U at Bannerwood Ballpark in Bellevue Tuesday afternoon.

Freshman Mason Pirello, a Sammamish, Wash. native, had three hits including his first career homer as six different Cougar hitters drove in a run. Gavin Roy had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 14 games while Pirello, Ollie Obenour and Ryan Skjonsby each scored twice.

Brock Blatter started and worked the first and second innings with a pair of strikeouts and Trevor Stowe followed with scoreless third and fourth innings with two strikeouts. Erik Rodriguez worked a scoreless fifth and Ryan Falke posted scoreless sixth and seventh innings with four strikeouts.

WSU took a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning before scoring six in the frame and added two more in the seventh.
Washington State improved to 12-15 while Seattle U dropped to 6-18. The two teams will meet again May 12 in Pullman, WSU's regular season finale.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
Pirello gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead with a solo homer to left field in the third inning. Seattle U put the first two hitters on in the bottom of the frame before Stowe entered and kept the Redhawks off the board with a popout, strikeout and fly out. In the fourth, Obenour led off with a double to left field, moved to third on an error and Noah Thein pushed the Cougar lead to 2-0 with a squeeze bunt to score Obenour.

Rodriguez worked a perfect fifth with a strikeout along the way before the Cougar bats erupted in the sixth. Skjonsby got things going with a hard hit RBI-single through the right side, Roy later scored on a wild pitch, Pirello pulled an RBI-single through the left side and Max Hartman hustled for an opposite-field RBI-double to left-centerfield to make it 6-0. Both Pirello and Hartman later scored on wild pitches for an 8-0 lead.

In the seventh, Kyler Northrop singled off the pitcher to bring home a run and Roy followed with an RBI-single into centerfield to cap the scoring.

Falke struck out the side in the sixth inning and again went 1-2-3 in the seventh with one strikeout to end the seven-inning win.
