DAVIS, Calif. (Feb. 7, 2026) – Washington State Women's Tennis rebounded from a tough defeat Friday to post a convincing 4-0 victory over UC Davis Saturday morning at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
 
With the win, the Cougars improve to 3-1 on the season while UC Davis falls to 2-6.
 
WSU opened the day by taking two of three doubles matches to earn the opening point. At No. 1, WSU's Maxine Murphy and Chisato Kanemaki posted a 6-4 win over Polina Marakhtanova and Mike Ikemori, 6-4, while Eva Alvarez Sande and Yura Nakagawa defeated Isabella Bringas and Maya Youssef by an identical score at No. 2. At No. 3, the Aggies' Aileena Hu and Kaia Wolfe earned a 6-3 win over WSU's Martina Puvill and Ava-Monet Sycamore.
 
In singles play, WSU took the first three completed matches to capture the 4-0 win. Puvill had little troubles in completing a 6-0, 6-2 win over Penelope Wong while Kanemaki was dominant in a 6-1, 6-2 win over Hu and No. 5. Alvarez Sande posted the clinching win with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ikemori at No. 1.
 
With the team victory clinched, the three remaining matches were abandoned. Murphy was leading Marakhtanova 6-2, 4-5 at No. 2, while Nakagawa was up a set and leading in the second, 6-4, 3-2, over Youssef at No. 3. At No. 6, Wolfe was narrowly leading Sycamore, 7-6, 1-1.
 
The Cougars return to action Friday when they travel to Provo to face BYU.
