Cougars Sweep Doubleheader Against Montana, Montana State

PULLMAN, Wash. (Feb. 22, 2026) – Washington State Women's Tennis swept a doubleheader against Montana and Montana State in convincing fashion, winning 5-2 and 6-1, respectively, Sunday at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
With the two wins, Washington State improves to 6-3 on the season.
Against Montana, the Cougars had to scrape from the start as the Grizzlies came out strong in doubles. WSU captured the No. 3 match comfortably, with Yura Nakagawa and Zali Morris defeating Paige Bott and Kate Pritchard, 6-1. Montana got the equalizer at No. 1 when Kelsey Phillips and Meghna Anand posted a 6-1 win over Maxine Murphy and Chisato Kanemaki, leaving the deciding match to Court 2. WSU's Eva Alvarez Sande and Martina Puvill trailed Shivika Agrawal and Monika Fizova 5-2 before mounting a furious comeback, winning the final 5 games to win 7-5 and secure the doubles point for WSU.
In singles play, the Cougars captured five of six matches in straight sets, the lone win for Montana coming when Pritchard won by walkover against Morris on Court 6. Alvarez Sande was dominate in winning 6-1, 6-0 over Phillips at No. 1 while Murphy posted a 6-3, 7-5 win over Anand at No. 2.
Puvill had little trouble in a 6-3, 6-3 win over Fizova at No. 3 and Nakagawa rallied for a 6-3, 6-4 win over Agrawal at No. 4 The final match on Court 5 went Kanemaki's way in a 6-4, 6-1 win over Bott.
In the Montana State match, the Cougars were in control from the start, capturing the doubles point when No 1 Murphy and Kanemaki cruised to a 6-1 win over Anna Wise and Terezie Stverakova while Nakagawa and Morris clinched the point with a 6-3 win over Kavya Khirwar and Lola Bean at No. 3.
In singles play, WSU captured the top three singles matches to clinch the team win. Alvarez Sande had little trouble in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Wise at No. 1. It ran Alvarez Sande's winning streak to nine matches to start the dual season. Murphy defeated Gelashvili, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2 before Puvill then clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Angel Bean at No. 3.
At No. 4, Nakagawa earned a come-from-behind, 3-6 6-4, 6-2 win over Stverakova. Montana State captured its only point when Lola Bean posted a 6-4, 6-4 over Morris at No. 6, while Kanemaki ended the day with a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win over Khirwar at No. 5.
The Cougars are next in action Friday when they travel to Seattle to face Washington.
